Hampton & Richmond Borough boss Alan Dowson has warned Charlie Moone may not score as many goals this term - but it will be worth the sacrifice.

Moone, the Ryman Premier League's golden boot in 2014 went past the 100-goal mark for the club last season as the Beavers recovered from a horror start to the campaign to avoid relegation to Ryman Division One South.

Dowson deployed the striker on the right side of an attacking front three in Monday's 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace and it looks likely that is the way things will stay - for the opening day trip to Harrow Borough at least.

"Charlie is a great player and was outstanding against Crystal Palace on Monday," said the manager.

"He has scored all these goals for Hampton but he hasn't won anything with the club. They haven't got promoted.

"We never play well as a 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 we look much better going forward and much harder to break down.

"It may be that Charlie will score fewer goals in that position, but we will score more goals from other areas of the pitch.

"If he works hard for the team in this system then we might just challenge for the top five or win something."

He added: "We have been working a little bit on pressing and closing the ball down in ones and twos high up the pitch.

"The first time we tried it in a game was against Crystal Palace and you can see what we are capable of.

"Now we are getting match sharp, we can bring these things into our game and make sure we are flying for the first game at Harrow Borough."
