Brentford returned to pre-season training this week and welcomed two more new faces in the process.

Denmark international centre back Andreas Bjelland, the club's record £2.1million signing, switched to Griffin Park from FC Twente after signing a three-year deal on Thursday.

The 26-year-old has 21 caps for his country and worked with new head of football philosophy Flemming Pedersen at 2012 Danish league champions Nordsjælland before moving to Holland.

Bjelland’s arrival came 24 hours after Austrian centre midfielder Konstantin Kerschbaumer also penned a three-year contract at the club.

The 23-year-old, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, makes the move to west London from FC Admira Wacker Mödling for an undisclosed fee.

The pair, joined by fellow newcomers Ryan Williams, Yoann Barbet and Akaki Gogia, add youth and experience to the ranks at the Championship promotion hopefuls.

Kerschbaumer will be a ready-made replacement for departed loan star Alex Pritchard, while Bjelland's arrival could spell the end of former Bees skipper Tony Craig’s time at the club.

Brentford co-director of football Phil Giles said: “Andreas had lots of options when he decided to leave FC Twente this summer.

“I’m therefore delighted he chose Brentford and recognises the long term aspirations of the club.”

Head coach Marinus Dijkhuizen added: “He brings a lot of experience to the squad and that is good for us as we have a lot of young players. He is good defender, but also plays football from the back.

“Andreas is also a Danish international and it is good for the image of Brentford FC that we can attract such players.”
