Goal machine Charlie Moone has itchy feet for the start of the new Ryman Premier Division season and he has a wish list that he reckons will produce more goals this season.

The Hampton & Richmond Borough striker, who has bagged 60 goals over the past two seasons, has already seen boss Alan Dowson strengthen a side that finished last term unbeaten in five games.

New faces include defenders Michael Kamara and Joe Hicks, and midfielders Eddie Hutchinson and Josh Casey, while loan keeper Seb Brown has agreed a permanent deal.

Missing from that list is a striker, and Moone, right, admitted it is an area that needs strengthening.

The 26-year-old is certain a striking partner or two will be walking through the Beveree gates soon, and he knows what he wants.

“I am not a striker who can get all the goals on my own, and I know I need help in that area and fans know from last season it is an area that needs attention,” he said.

“I prefer to play with a target man, who can be unselfish and contribute in more ways than scoring goals.

“I can compete with the biggest central defenders, but I don’t know where they are growing them because they seem to be getting bigger and bigger, and it would be nice to have someone who can hold the ball up so I can feed off them.”

He added: “But that does not rule out any other strike-partner option, because sometimes you just click with a player.

“I played with Dave Tarpey and we had a chemistry that worked. Either way, it’s important we hit the ground running.

“We did that before – we went something like 10 games unbeaten – and it puts the fear into other teams.”

Moone’s excitement about the coming season has been boosted by the promotion to the National South of Margate and Maidstone last time round.

“I was pleased they won promotion because had one of them failed, they would have won the title this season,” he said.

“It leaves the league more open than I can ever remember it, and that’s great for us. It makes for an exciting season and I cannot wait to get going.”
