New striker Richard Jolly has backed himself to score the goals that get Kingstonian into the National League South this season.

The 32-year-old penned a new deal to switch to Kingsmeadow from Wealdstone last week and is one of six new faces boss Tommy Williams has signed this summer.

Jolly, right, went into early retirement in 2013, having smashed 48 goals in a season for Wealdstone that took them to the Ryman Premier League play-offs and FA Trophy semi-finals in 2012.

He also netted the National Game Awards’ step three player of the year and the Pro Direct non-League golden boot gongs that year.

And the prolific front man, a Ryman Premier League winner with Sutton United, reckons he can get Ks to a top five finish at least if he has half as good a season as that this time around.

“Someone told me a stat that if I score more than 20 goals in a season the team I’m playing in gets to the play-offs,” he said.

“I’ll stick by that and back myself to score more.

“If a few other people chip in from around the pitch as well then it is definitely on.”

He added: “The league position last year did not reflect the quality of the team. Ks were still in with a shout of the top five with a couple of games to go.

“Only two more wins would have got them there.

“The mix of experience and youth in the squad means we have a great chance if everyone gels together quickly.”
