The new Tooting & Mitcham United boss has started the player revolution he hopes will take the club up the football non-League pyramid – but the most important news concerns one player going nowhere.

Frank Wilson has recruited three new names, with more to be announced soon, but he has also retained the services of Dan Summers, last season’s top scorer.

Summers hit 36 goals in all competitions last term, and he will be linking up with new striker Serge Makofo.

Makofo plied his trade at Whitehawk and Dulwich Hamlet last season, but has Football League experience with MK Dons and Grimsby Town.

Wilson said: “He spent much of last season at Whitehawk, but he comes from north London, and it was too difficult for him to travel.

“I know him well, when I got this job we had a long chat and we’re delighted to get him on board, and he and Dan will make for a great front line.”

He added: “We’ve also brought in defenders Daryl Siew from Farnborough and Antonio Simeone, who was skipper as Godalming last season.”

Striking partner: Serge Makofo, right, in his Grimsby Town spell

Three players who have signed up to the duo’s ethos are defenders Daryl Siew from Farnborough and Antonio Simeone from Godlaming, as well as striker Serge Makofo from Whitehawk.

Leaving Imperial Fields are Nathan Gordon and Stefan Cox, who have joined Ryman Premier Division new boys Merstham, and David Graves and Howard Newton, who have succumbed to injury.

Wilson said: “We’re delighted to get the three players in and we’re hopeful to have more to announce soon.

“I’m pleased to say that Bashiru Alimi is staying, and TJ Nkoma and Leon Lalor Dell from the academy have signed on for another season.”

The club are also holding trials to look for those diamonds in the rough from the surrounding area, a source of talent Wilson believes has remained untapped for too long.

He said: “We’re in a great catchment area and have invited applicants to a trial match on Sunday, with a view to inviting some back for pre-season.

“We’ve been inundated with applications from players, and it’s important to facilitate them because there may be some we don’t want to let slip through the fingers.

“In the past, the club has not given this group of players the chance they probably deserve.”
