Leatherhead shared the points with league leaders Maidstone in a front of a season-high crowd of 643 at Fetcham Grove.

Vasileios Karagiannis gave Tanners the lead after 31 minutes before Stones captain Steve Watt equalised with a header on the stroke of half-time.

Leatherhead manager Richard Brady brought in Farnham Town loan signing Phil Page in place of Carl Rook in an otherwise unchanged starting line-up.

Maidstone’s strong forward line was largely contained by the hosts throughout the match.

Matt Bodkin created a good opening for James Rogers after seven minutes, but the Stones midfielder’s effort was comfortably saved by Tanners keeper Louis Wells.

A minute later Karagiannis made a break down the right for Leatherhead, floating a high ball across the goal mouth. But his delivery was just too long and deep for Kiernan Hughes-Mason, coming in at the far post.

Jay May missed a chance to put the visitors ahead after 13 minutes, latching onto a long ball before lofting a shot high over the bar.

Maidstone were caught out by a moment’s hesitation in their defence to gift an opening goal to the hosts.

Karagiannis dispossessed Rogers 40 yards out before rounding goalkeeper Lee Worgan with a cool finish.

Stones responded with May forcing a brave, close-range save from Wells. But the Maidstone forward earned himself a caution after following through with a high challenge on the Leatherhead keeper.

The league leaders’ equaliser came after a corner was awarded in first half stoppage time. Frannie Collin swung a ball in from the right and Watt headed home unchallenged from six yards.

The match slowly fizzled out in the second half with too many long balls going astray at each end.

Stacy Long came on for Leatherhead in the final five minutes to end a seven-week injury lay off.

Maidstone continued to press forward in the dying minutes, producing one last chance in stoppage time. But Collin’s quickly taken corner flew straight into the side netting.

Leatherhead return to League action on Saturday when they visit second-placed Hendon. Kick-off is at 3m.
