Adedeji Oshilaja may have won the man of the match award after Dons 2-1 win over York City, but the defender says he alone did not deserve it.

Instead, the 22-year-old says the award should have gone to the whole team after Saturday’s hard-fought win ended a run of three games without maximum points.

The January signing opened his Dons account with a firm first-half header, but it was left to a fine Jack Smith volley in the final minute to seal the win and lift Dons to 11th in the League Two table.

Oshilaja said: “It was a great feeling [to get my first league goal] and it was vital to get that.

“I’m pleased with how I played, but more importantly we got the three points and I am buzzing about that.

“I got the man of the match award, but I believe everyone deserved it.

“I thought the team performance was excellent in terms of what we had to do and how we had to play, and as a team we deserved the win.”

He added: “It was a hard game, they gave it to us in both halves, but we battled well and just like Tuesday’s game [0-0 v Southend United], we dug out the result.

“In terms of chances I thought we were going to win the game.

“We needed a bit of luck, that little bit of quality to win it and Jack [Smith] had that.”

Oshilaja also feels his side still have a chance of reaching the play-offs with 11 matches left in the season.

He added: “We set ourselves up to be looking upwards and we are doing that.

“I believe we can push for the play-offs, I said that before. We have the players to do that.”

Dons boss Neal Ardley said: “I knew what Deji was capable of when I brought him in.

“I’ve tried to sign him five times before and was not quite able to do it, and when I finally signed him, several people raised their eyebrows and asked what I was doing.

“But I said he was better than this level and he’s proving it. He is two footed and his one v one defending is excellent.”

He added: “The boy has got a good future and I’m proud to be part of that.”
