Neal Ardley has his fingers crossed that AFC Wimbledon “get the draw they deserve” after guiding them to the third round of the FA Cup.

Sean Rigg hit the winner at Adams Park to upset the form book and dump Wycombe Wanderers on the cup wayside.

After a first half from both sides that failed to inspire, the deadlock was broken on the hour when Rigg stabbed home after good work from Adebayo Akinfenwa and George Francomb.

Ardley, who celebrated the win in front of the vociferous travelling Dons fans, said: “I cannot tell you how hard we have worked for this.

“Our training this week has been at an incredibly high tempo because I knew that’s how Wycombe would play.

“The way I kept on at the players they probably thought we were preparing to play Brazil, I’ve poked them, pushed them “You sometimes wonder what will happen when they cross the white line, but I am so proud of the players.

“We earned that today, they did everything we asked of them.”

He added: “There was a great atmosphere and our fans were immense. It was a long six minutes added time, they were throwing the ball into the box, but that’s cup football.

“We defended resiliently and Jake [Goodman], for someone making his debut at this level, was immense.”

The draw for the third round takes place tomorrow evening (7pm), with Dons number 50.

Ardley said: “I hope and pray, and we don’t get much luck with this generally, that the club gets the draw they deserve.

“I hope they get a glamour tie. We’ve got a busy schedule between now and January, so to have that to look forward to is massive.”
