If Kingstonian players could boo themselves they would says Josh Casey, but instead they are determined to turn the jeers to cheers sooner rather than later.

The 23-year-old was among those Ks players guilty of squandering a host of opportunities to score in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Dulwich Hamlet that leaves boss Tommy Williams’ side 14th in the Ryman Premier League table and 11 points adrift of the top five.

Fans have been getting restless at Kingsmeadow in the wake of a run of form that has seen them collect just seven points from their past nine games.

But Casey is confident the squad has the quality to turn the form book on its head to reach the play-offs.

And he insisted the players had history on their side.

“We are all frustrated with the run of results and performances. It has not been nice,” he said.

“I can understand why the fans have booed us off at times. They pay their money and have a right to do that.

"If we were the fans we’d do exactly the same.

“If we get a couple of back-to-back wins we can be back up in the mix for the play-offs.

“December is a big month for us, but it is not the time to press the panic button. It is not make or break.

“We’ve got to stop looking back at last year, because we are a different team, with different players, a different manager and a different way of doing things.

“Any team would struggle to adjust after losing a 60-goal strike pair in Andre McCollin and Ryan Moss.

“But if you do look at last season, we went something like 15 games unbeaten, made the play-offs and came close to winning the league.

“If we can get on a similar run then it is not unrealistic to think we can get into the top five.”

Williams also feels the fans’ pain, but he insisted there were positives to be taken from the weekend defeat.

“People get frustrated with results, I’m no different,” said Williams after Ks slipped up on Saturday.

“We’re trying to find the right system, we’re trying to change the way the lads have played from previous years.

“As long as we stay positive and it looks like things are going to change – and games like that show things are changing – then there’s no reason we can’t be up there.”

Casey was on the bench as Ks crashed out of the Surrey Senior Cup 2-1 at Combined Counties Premier Division side Badshot Lea on Tuesday night.

He said: “I don’t really want to talk about it, but no-one will care about the Surrey Senior Cup if we make the play-offs.”
