Sutton United and Jamie Taylor parted company because Margate flashed the cash with an offer Paul Doswell could not refuse.

The striker, signed from Lincoln City at the beginning of last season, penned a two-year deal at the Ryman Premier side last week.

Taylor scored 14 goals for United last term, but has only found the back of the net once in eight games this season.

Doswell said: “Everyone knows Jamie has had a difficult start to the season, and he has had some personal issues to deal with and this move will help him massively.

“Margate rang us up and said they were interested in Jamie and they made an offer that, for a player who was not getting the goals he should, we could not turn down.”

He added: “It is also a reflection on how well Jessy Reindorf has done that we’re putting our faith in him.”

Also going out the Gander Green Lane door are Marvin Williams and Luke Ruddick as both have failed to recover from long-term injuries.

“Marvin and I sat down in the week, and he told me could not carry on,” Doswell said.

“He had an Achilles tear last season, and we gave him a chance to come back during pre-season.

“After all the hard work he put in to get fit, for it to recur really knocked the stuffing out of him. He is officially retiring, but I can see him doing a job at Ryman level.”

Doswell has also been dealt another blow after Will Spetch’s return from injury hit a snag with the recurrence of his knee tendonitis problem, keeping him out for perhaps months rather than weeks.

To help plug the gaps, Doswell has brought back Harry Osborne from Charlton on a month’s loan, while Louis John is set to return from his loan spell at Lewes.

And despite the ongoing injury problems, and last weekend’s 3-0 Conference South defeat to Ebbsfleet, Doswell remains upbeat.

He said: “We’re not worried, we’re not down. We weren’t at the races at Ebbsfleet, but taking into consideration all our problems, we’re doing OK.”
