Charlie Moone might be top of the Ryman Premier League goal scoring charts, but personal accolades do not motivate him.

The Hampton & Richmond Borough striker netted his third hat-trick of the season as the Beavers came from behind to beat play-off chasing Bognor Regis Town 4-3 at the Beveree on Tuesday night.

It took his season’s tally to 40 in all competitions with a staggering 34 of those coming in the league as joint boss Paul Barry’s men have been forced to settle for mid-table mediocrity this term.

Moone, who penned an 18-month contract at Station Road earlier in the season, is five goals clear of AFC Hornchurch’s George Purcell in the race to be the league’s golden boot this term.

But the 25-year-old former Woking frontman is thinking no further than
tomorrow’s trip to AFC Hornchurch.

“I never really keep an eye on how many goals I have scored or where I am in the goalscoring charts.

“I don’t think it is healthy. I get told these sort of things.

“I thought 24 or 25 last year was good so to be where I am at the moment is amazing.

“It is not something that motivates me. It is all about how the team is doing really.

“If the team plays well then I get the chances to score.

“We’ve shown all season we are good enough on our day to beat anyone.

“We are one of the best footballing teams in the division and it is up to us to have one final push this season regardless of where we are going to finish.”

Popular defender Justyn Roberts handed Barry a boost this week after agreeing a deal to remain at the Beveree next term.

The 28-year-old former Sutton United centre back has made 40 appearances in his first season with the Beavers and scored his first goal for the club in last Thursday’s 1-1 draw with AFC Hornchurch.
