Sutton United defender Mitchell Nelson is feeling the frustration after yet another Skrill South match at Gander Green Lane was postponed due to the weather.

United have played just once this year after the games at Hayes & Yeading and Dover Athletic were also postponed.

Despite the lack of action United remain fourth in the table, but such is the disparity in games played by the top teams, that may be a moot position.

However, according to Nelson, the players just want to get out and play.

“When you train and train, you get all built up and prepared for a game and when it doesn’t happen, you’re so frustrated,” the 24-year-old summer signing said.

“We all just want to get out there and play, we want to get on another winning run and who knows where that could take us, but for the time being its tough hanging around.”

The back-log of matches that has built up means United will play seven games in February, on the back of this weekend’s trip to Basingstoke.

But Nelson, who has taken his A-levels in sport performance and excellence with a view to a career as a physio post-football, does not mind a busy schedule.

He said: “I prefer that, I think it plays into our hands. If we can get a run of results going then the momentum of game after game can help keep it rolling over.

“There is competition for places here, which is terrific, so we’re all working hard to be prepared for when the games start again, I just want it to be sooner rather than later.”

He added: “We’re remaining positive, in the second half of a season teams can stall a bit and we need to be there to take advantage.”
