Elliott: Ks fans are partly to blame for Shaw's departure

Wimbledon Guardian: Wayne Shaw: Not solely to blame Wayne Shaw: Not solely to blame

Sutton United chairman Bruce Elliott has warned Ks fans to take a look at themselves over the incident that led to goalkeeping coach Wayne Shaw’s sacking last week.

Shaw will spend this Christmas soul searching after his release as player and coach at Gander Green Lane in the wake of his altercation with Kingstonian supporters prior to last week’s Surrey County Cup clash.

The former Eastleigh shotstopper climbed over advertising hoardings to confront away fans after allegedly being subjected to verbal abuse.

Shaw admitted a skirmish broke out, but the incident has not been reported to police.

“You would not want to meet a nicer man in non-League football,” said Elliott.

“Both sides involved in the incident need to take a good look at themselves.

“What gives fans the right to throw abuse at a man just because they are in a football ground?

“It is with a heavy heart that we have released Wayne from his position at the club.”

Shaw, who had considered walking away from the game altogether before being fired, said: “I fully support the board’s decision and I’m sorry it has ended this way.

“I’ll take stock over Christmas, talk with my family and hopefully another club can make use of my experience.”

You said you are a Ks supporter in that post I quoted, not a "football supporter". I wasn't even at the game in question, hence why I didn't comment on the situation. You're tarring everyone with the same misguided brush, so I do hope you count yourself amongst the "morons" that you describe, considering you called yourself as a Ks supporter.

If one of our players assaulted a Sutton fan after being asked if they were the fitness coach, we'd never hear the end of it. Same old Sutton, always whining.
