Surrey cricket manager Chris Adams reckons Wandsworth’s Rory Hamilton-Brown was born to captain the Brown Caps.

The Brit Oval outfit were given permission by Sussex to speak with the young off-spinning all-rounder last week about making return to the club he quit two year ago due to a lack of first-class opportunities.

Hamilton-Brown, who has only eight first-class appearances to his name, is wanted by Adams to lead a squad packed with young emerging talent that won only one Liverpool Victoria County Championship Division Two match last season.

The Brown Caps struggled in all forms of the game as they bedded in a host of youngsters as they look to recapture past glories at the Oval.

The 22-year-old played a key role in the Sharks run the Friends Provident Trophy final in the summer and their Twenty20 Cup winning campaign.

And Adams believes capturing his signature will be a major step towards getting Surrey back to the summit of the domestic game.

”We would be absolutely stoked if we get him,” he said.

“The time is right for me and for him to join together and formulate a partnership which will grow over time with the squad and get Surrey to where it needs to be, which is at the top of English cricket.

“I think captains are born. They have certain attributes such as charisma, the ability to galvanise people, possess intelligent and tactical brains.

“Somebody that people need to follow, either by example or by just being a damn good person and being able to get people to perform at the best of their ability. I see all of that in Rory.”
