Harry Aikines-Aryeetey is determined to get it right and go for glory at the British Indoor Championships in Sheffield on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Sutton & District AC star failed to make the 60m final at Glasgow Indoor Grand Prix IAAF World Tour event last weekend, after clocking 6.71 seconds for fourth place.

He came into the Scottish city fresh from posting from a season’s best 6.67secs at the AIT International Grand Prix in Ireland last week.

Aikines-Aryeetey said: “I am disappointed because I didn’t want to see 6.70secs on my record this year, but I know I can run better.

“It’s just getting over the start which has been the problem this season, but I’m working on it. The season is progressing good, I just need to get races in.”

The Carshalton man will need to perform in Sheffield if he is to rubber-stamp his Team GB place for next month’s IAAF World Indoor Championships in the USA.

Sean Safo-Antwi, Richard Kilty, James Dasaolu, Adam Gemili and Raynes Park's own Theo Etienne are the leading contenders, but Aikines-Aryeetey added: “I’m confident I will get it right for the trials.”
