St Mary’s University’s middle distance international Andrew Osagie has revealed his indoor season is all about being prepared for success at this summer's world championships.

Twickenham-based Osagie and Charlie Grice both had chaotic starts to their 2015 indoor campaign at PSD Bank Meeting last Thursday in Düsseldorf.

In an evening jam-packed with thrills and spills on the Arena-Sportpark track Osagie, 26, battled his way to a one minute 49.21 seconds third place finish in the men’s 800m B Race.

Patrick Schoenball and Reuben Bett both fell during the opening stages as Kenya’s Jeremiah Mutai claimed victory in 1:48.18.

“That race was a bit scrappy,” said Osagie.

"I kind of got stuck by a couple of incidents, so it was more important for me not to hurt myself.”

And Osagie says he will be using the indoor season as major preparation for the outdoor season.

“My main thing for me this year is the world outdoor champs which is a massive aim,” he continues.

“The indoor season for me has always been one where if I can run I’ll race, so it’s a similar situation this year.

“This is my opener. I came here to Düsseldorf to get the cobwebs off then see how I go from here.”

Meanwhile, fellow St Mary's University athlete Grice was pleased with his opener despite finishing seventh in a topsy-turvy pace changing men’s 1500m encounter.

Kenya’s Bethwel Birgen took the honours in 3:40.58 beating German crowd favourite Homiyu Tesfaye by three-hundredths of a second.

“It was a solid race,” said Grice who clocked 3:43.61. “It felt quick, the pace got quicker but I haven’t done much speed work.

“It was quite slow, slow as I thought it be. They were trying to get 35/36 a lap.

“I just wanted a good race, a positive experience so I got that.

“I know I’m fitter than last year. I haven’t done the race specifics stuff yet but I still got a good five weeks until Prague.

This Saturday Grice will be racing at IFAM Indoor meeting in Gent, Belgium.
