Four Croydon Harriers represented Surrey at the South Eastern Schools Inter County cross-country championships at Reigate on Saturday.

Warlingham student Stevie Lawrence continued her good form in the senior girls' race, crossing the line in 10th, and was the first Surrey athlete home in a field of 73 finishers.

She led the county to third overall in the six-county contest.

In the inter boys' race Omar Harhara gave his English Schools selection hopes a timely boost finishing in 32nd and the sixth Surrey athlete to finish.

As sixth scorer, his squad placed fifth. Training partner Kieron Connor was 77th in a field of 83.

Jessica Moore made her county debut in the junior girls' race, finishing 65th in the near 100-strong field.

At the British University and Colleges Championships Peter Chambers (UCL) finished 65th in the men’s A race at Brighton.

Ben Savill (Sussex) and Alex Penfold (Brunel) were 139th and 201st respectively out of 314 finishers in the A race.

Croydon finished runners-up at the East Surrey cross-country relays at Wimbledon on Saturday, the club’s best result at this race in many years.

The quartet of Mark Plackett (10 minutes 14 seconds), Alan Burn (11:01), Glenn Barden (11:16) and Mark Lynch (11:42) ensured the Harriers were comfortable runner’s up in the 4x1.95mile challenge.

The B Team of Neil Aikman (12:30), Andy Del Nevo (12.22), Mark Plackett (10:22, who ran a second leg) and Colin Oxlade (12:11) grabbed seventh in the 22-team field.

In the U13s race, Megan Driver was the fifth girl home and 22nd overall.

Kyra Sethna-McIntosh (26th), Cassandra Howard (31st), Adam Shew (32nd) and Sasha Howard (34th) provided solid support.

At the London Indoor Championships at Lee Valley, five Harriers continued their winter campaigns.

Brittany Brown made her Croydon debut with a 5.02m effort in the women’s long jump to finish sixth.

Robert Sakala (U20 men’s 60 hurdles, 8.60secs), Daniel Luke (U20M 200m, 23.19secs), Oje Izirein (men’s 200m, 24.61secs) and Mityrae Brooks (U20 men’s high jump, 1.91m) completed the contingent.

In parkrun action Jake English triumphed at Crystal Palace for the 21st time.

There were 10 Harriers competing at Lloyd Park, with Mark Lynch leading the team home in fifth, and young Saarah Nawaz won the women’s race.
