Hercules Wimbledon AC’s Jaleel Roper underlined his potential as one of Britain’s most promising young sprinters when he bettered his own UK indoor boys’ U13 60m record twice at the London Indoor Games at Lee Valley over the weekend.

Roper, who is still only 11, raced to victory in the opening round 60m dash in 7.55 seconds to shave just one-hundredth of a second off the record he set at the David Weir Leisure Centre, Carshalton, a fortnight earlier.

Then, in the second round he again crossed the line first in 7.54sec s, for another UK record-breaking performance, again by just one-hundredths of a second.

Roper was also in action in the 200m where he gained another win in 24.69secs to shave one-hundredths of a second of his Hercules Wimbledon U13 boys club record set at the SLAN Super 8 meeting at Wimbledon Park last August.

His time ranks him 13th on the UK all-time list for his age group.

Roper was among a dozen Hercules Wimbledon sprinters in action at Lee Valley over the weekend.

Teenager Ralphael Buckle twice improved his best times over 60m in winning his men’s U17 races in 7.32secs and 7.28secs, while Nathaniel Pongolati also clocked a personal best in winning his boys U13 60m race in 8.98secs.

Another U13 sprinter, Miles Ayoola, clocked 8.36secs and 8.37secs in finishing behind Roper in both his races in third place.

Josh Dillon also clocked a personal best 7.84secs in winning his men’s U17 60m race.

Teenager Alice Keyser also clocked a personal best of 8.53secs in winning her women’s U17 60m race, while Belmiro Costa won the men’s U17 300m.
