Hercules Wimbledon AC’s senior men’s road runners qualified for next month’s English national road relay championships by posting their best ever performance in the qualifying South of England event last weekend.

The six-strong team recorded their fastest ever time in the Aldershot six-stage championship finishing 16th, with the top 25 automatically qualifying for the Birmingham event on October 4.

It was a true team effort with all six runners clocking within 53 seconds of each other.

Liam White made a solid start covering the opening 6km circuit in 19 minutes 27 seconds, the second best Hercules time of the day, handing over in 27th place.

Matt Sharp (19:37) and Kieran White (19:48) kept the team in 27th spot before Rob Tuer (20:00) gained a place.

Jonathan Cornish was in outstanding form on the penultimate leg clocking the best Hercules time of the day of 19:07, which was also the sixth best time on his stage as he lifted the team into 19th spot.

Dominic Kiralfyi gained a further three places to complete the anchor leg in 19:33.
