Croydon Harriers young and old took on the best endurance athletes in southern England last weekend at the South of England Road Relay championships in Aldershot.

Five teams closed in across the age groups, including in the U13 girls and women’s fields for the first time in decades in this competition.

The U17 men enjoyed the highest position from the club, coming home in the top 25 out of the 46 teams that started.

Omar Harhara, Kieron Connor, Luke Wakeling and Rob Spalding completed their 4x3.8km race to finish 23rd.

The U13 girls' trio of Cassandra Howard, Megan Driver and Kyra Sethna-McIntosh were 44th out of the 83 teams competing in the 3x2.2km challenge.

In the U15 boys' ranks, the quartet of Jordan O’Dongo, Emmanuel Thomas, Caleb and James Drummond were 44th out of the 55 teams that toed the start-line.

The women’s team completed Saturday’s action with Lisa Harris handing over in 26th position in the 68 club strong field.

Stevie Lawrence, Jules Williams and Amy Dowsett brought the squad home in 55th.

On Sunday, the men’s team matched their female colleagues and also finished 55th out of the 85 teams that started.

Peter Chambers particularly shone with his best time on the 6km course finishing in 19 minutes 25 seconds handing over in 26th position.

He was solidly backed up by Jake English (20:03) and David White (20:24). David Brown (22:10), Glenn Barden (23:58) and Matthew Kiernan (25:03) completed the team.

In the pick of the parkrun action, Jake English was first home at Crystal Palace and Jessica Moore was the winner of the women’s category at Lloyd Park.
