Sutton & District AC’s Imani Lansiquot is heading to the US for the World Junior Championships after a blistering show at last weekend’s English Schools’ Championship.
The 17-year-old clocked 11.67 seconds to win the 100m and claim her place in the GB squad for the Worlds, starting July 22.
There were also schools’ title for Chris McAlister (400m hurdles, 53.39secs), Tilly Hooper (pole vault, 3.6m) and Charmont Webster-Tape (100m, 12.09secs).
Elsewhere, the club’s athletes belied their lowly position in Division Three of the South Athletics League by winning 12 A-string events in the penultimate meeting at Carshalton.
There were wins for Cameron Starr (200m, 22.5secs), Shaun Cooke (400m, 50.4secs), Neville Harris (800m, one minute, 54.7secs), Sid Walters (high jump, 1.8m), Jeremy Nampuma (long jump, 6.16m; triple jump, 12.74m), Chris Smale (hammer, 38.80m) and the men’s and ladies 4x400m, as well as the ladies 4x100m team.
Sophia Henlon (100m, 12.7secs), Nicola Okulogume (200m, 26.30secs) and Tabitha Lambe (400m, 60.20secs) were triumpant.
Sutton lie 17th in the 21-team table ahead of the final meeting on August 2.
