Boss Uwe Rosler has called on the Brentford squad to become Farid El-Alagui's surrogate family with the Moroccan striker facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The 27-year-old was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious knee injury in Satruday's 2-1 League One win over Crawley Town and subsequently missed Tuesday's 1-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy triumph over the same team.

A Clayton Donaldson double accounted for the Red Devils on Saturday and midielder Sam Saunders hit the midweek winner to leave the Bees unbeaten in their last six games.

Rosler will add a short-term replacement to his squad with El-Alagui's prognosis for the rest of the campaign not looking good, although he will ask Paul Hayes to shoulder more of the goalscoring burden.

El-Alagui has only been in the UK since the beginning of last season and the Griffin Park chief wants his men to help his summer signing feel at home.

"Unfortunately, we got part of the results [of Farid's scan], but not all of them and he will be out for a lengthy period," said Rosler on Tuesday.

"We're definitely looking to bring in someone on a short-term loan.

"Hopefully, he will be able to play with both Clayton Donaldson and Paul Hayes and have the right character and works hard, ambitious and hungry.

"Farid came from Scotland and wanted to make a big impression in English football.

"He started very well and settled in well as a footballer and a person and is very much liked around the club.

"Now we have to be there for him because he does not have family or many friends here, as he has just arrived, and we need to look after him."

Saunders' second half strike underlined Brentford's dominance over Crawley in 180 minutes of football and Rosler revealed he felt his squad had the strength in depth to take the Trophy seriously.

"We've put ourselves in a position where we can have a go at this competition," he added.

"Everyone in our squad is good enough to play in the first team and we took it very seriously.

"This competition is good for us as we can give everyone a run out. We have great competition for places."
