Brentford moved in the southern area quarter finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy with a comfortable 1-0 win over Crawley Town at Griffin Park on Tuesday night.

Substitute Sam Saunders goal in the second half was enough to secure the Bees' second win over Crawley in four days.

As on Saturday Brentford were superior to their opponents and could have won by a bigger margin.

In the early stages Harlee Dean saw his header from a corner saved by Paul Jones, while Harry Forrester fired a free kick over the bar.

Saturday's match-winner Clayton Donaldson wasted a great chance to put his side ahead when he raced clear, but facing a one-on-one with Jones, he saw his low shot touched behind by the keeper.

For Crawley Sergio Torres shot wide left from the edge of the box, while Billy Clarke skipped past a defender down the right before his strong shot brought a good save out of Richard Lee.

Paul Hayes did well to break down the left before firing wide, while just before the break Damian Bulman's ambitious shot was wide of the left hand post for Crawley.

Early in the second half Tom Adeyemi made room on the right hand side of Crawley's box, but his shot was deflected behind.

Donaldson did well to create space on the right hand byline before crossing across the six yard box, where Scott Barron fired wide.

Lee saved again when Mike Jones fired on a low shot from the edge of the box.

Saunders scored the decisive goal when Barron's cross from the left fell to him on the right side of the box and his crisp shot across goal beat Jones.

Substitute Antonio German wasted another one-on-one chance when he shot wide with just Jones to beat.

The Bees survived a scare in added on time when Tony Craig cleared off the line after a scramble inside Brentford's box.
