Road runners will be heading to Wimbledon Park on Sunday morning when Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club stage the Perserverance Geoff Moulden 10km road race for the 52nd time.

Last year's winner, Paskar Owor of Belgrave Harriers, who represented Uganda in the Athens and Sydney Olympics, is expected to defend his title in a bid to bag his share of the £300 worth of voucher prizes.

The prizes will be shared between the top three men and women and the top men veterans over-40, over-50 and over-60 and women veterans over-35, over-45 and over-55 category winners.

On line and postal entries have closed but entries, costing £15 each, are being taken on the day and anyone wanting to have a crack at the testing two-lap course should report to the race headquarters in the Wimbledon Park community clubhouse at 8am.

Organiser Richard Xerri boasts the race, which is open to runners of abilities, is not only the longest running road race in Wimbledon but also one of the oldest races of its kind in England.

The event starts and finishes on the athletics track at Wimbledon Park and runners follow a course along Wimbledon Park Road and Church Road, past the world famous London Olympic tennis venue, the All England Club, along St Mary's Road, Arthur Road and Home Park Road, before re-entering Wimbledon Park.
