Croydon Harriers young distance runners enjoyed their best turnout at the South of England Road Relays in more than a decade.

Sixteen athletes tackled the challenging Rushmoor Arena in Aldershot and it was the U15 boys who provided the highlight of the afternoon by finishing 24th in the 60-strong field - the club's best result in four years in this age group.

Omar Harhara (10 minutes, 55 seconds) kicked off proceedings over the 3km course, handing over in 31st to Rob Cleghorn (11:09) who gained a further five places. Charlie Brackenborough (11:08) held the team's position, before Rob Spalding (10:46) stole another two places to lift the team into 24th.

Their female compatriots in the same age group were also in the mix, fielding two teams.

Naomi Carty (12:23), Josie Kavanagh (12:47) Emily Howe (12:33) finished 44th out of the 85 teams who began the race, while the team of Sabrina Stoute (13:26), Cora Sexton (15:03) and Atlanta Drummond (13:47) finished 69th.

The pick of the non-scoring results:

U17 women: Stevie Lawrence was 17th after leg one in 11:35.

U13 boys: Marcus Stoute (14:09, leg one - 54th) and Mosope Bamgbopa (13:20, leg two 48th).

U13 girls: Molly Tempest (10:46, 2.2K, leg one - 73rd)

U17 men: Luke Baker (14:58, 4K, leg one - 61st)

U15 boys: Jordan Walters (11:35, 3km leg one)

U15 girls: Sumayya Nabatanzi (14:52, 3km, 85th leg one)

Twenty-four hours later at a rain drenched Rushmoor Park, the men finished 63rd out of 84 teams - Neil Aikman (23:41), Peter Chambers (19:50), Ben Savill (22:04) and Martin Rowe (24:24) took on the challenging 6km course.
