AFC Croydon Athletic are up to sixth in Division One of the Combined Counties League thanks to a 3-2 win at Knaphill.

Boss Antony Williams said: "I am delighted to pick up another three points which continues to keep us in the mix.

"This was an important win, against a side who showed great spirit and determination."

The Rams needed Knaphill to take the lead before bursting into life with the equaliser from Edward Cardona just before the break.

Then Lee Jansen and Joe Loyza put the Rams into a commanding position in the second half.

Knaphill pulled a goal back and they would have stolen a point in the dying seconds but for a fine fingertip save by Tom Ralph in the Rams goal.

Williams said: "A few choice words were said to the team at half-time. But I was delighted with the next 25 minutes. We took control of the game and scored some excellent goals.

"At 3-1 we really needed to close the game out, it is something we must learn."

He added: "Players seemed to switch off and allow them back into the game, they scored again after another defensive error, which started with our throw. In the end we were hanging on."

Goalscorer Cardona could miss this weekend's Premier League Cup clash with Eversley & California with a hamstring injury.
