Wimbledon Hockey Club started their campaign in the Men’s Conference East division with an emphatic 6-1 over Peterborough at Church Road.
The club handed debuts to Richard Alexander, Johnnie Smith and Mathew Bunyan, while it also featured a new attacking threat of John Kinder and man of the match Chris Gregg.
Ben Hawes put the disappointment of missing out on an Olympic medal behind him by turning out and scoring one of the goals that sunk the visitors.
Wimbledon were 2-0 ahead at the break thanks to goals from Gregg and Jared Treadaway.
Hawes then converted a short corner, Alexander scored from open play, Kinder made it 5-0 and Gregg completed the goal scoring before Peterborough pulled back their consolation.
Wimbledon will hope to continue their good start when they travel to Teddington on Saturday (1.45pm start).
