Croydon Harriers’ men’s team brought the curtain down on their 2012 track and field campaign by finishing seventh in the British League qualifiers at Abingdon.

Only the top two clubs from the qualifiers are promoted to the British Athletics League, leaving Croydon to challenge again next year.

Paul Ogun led the way with Croydon’s sole victory of the afternoon in the triple jump with a leap of 14.73m. He backed this up with second in the long jump (7.16m).

Richmond Baah was third in the javelin thanks to a throw of 50.25m, while Richard Irving threw a lifetime best in the hammer (35.63m).

Oweka Wanogho bagged two seconds in the 100m (10.7 seconds) and 200m (21.7s), and there was another runner-up finish for Patrick Lucas in the 800m (1 minute, 59.9s).

In the Surrey & Sussex Multi-Events Championships, Croydon’s Lawrence in the heptathlon, and Daniel Pinn in the octathlon, both won bronze medals, while Jaran Finn was one place outside the medals in the senior 3,000m steeple-chase in 11:09.23.
