Molesey Boat Club's Ruth Walczak helped ensure the feelgood factor from the London 2012 Olympics continued as she claimed a European bronze medal at the weekend.

Walczak celebrated her 24th birthday in style as she and partner Imogen Walsh finished third in the lightweight women's double scull at Lake Varese in Italy on Sunday.

"We were up against Olympic-class crews so it was a great performance considering that," said London Rowing Club's Walsh.

"We don't see it as the last race of the season but the start of the next Olympiad."

Matthew Tarrant, who started his career at Weybridge Rowing Club and subsequently turned our for Walton Rowing Club and Molesey Boat Club, finished fourth in the men's pairs final with partner Kieren Emery.

Molesey's Peter Robinson and Fred Gill were in the men's eight crew that finished fourth on a weekend that saw GB secure their best ever European Championship medal haul.
