Surbiton Ladies stunned last season’s Investec Women’s Hockey League Premier Division table-toppers, and championship runners-up, Reading, coming out on top 4-0 at Sugden Road in their first match in the top flight.
Sarah Page struck to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage at the break before skipper Chloe Strong, Natalie Maclean (nee Bell) and Bethan Jenkins wrapped up the win as the visitors suffered their heaviest Premier Division defeat in the Premier Division since promotion to the top flight in 2009 and first loss by a four-goal margin in six years.
Surbiton Ladies, who top the early season table visit Sutton Coldfield - who won 2-0 at the University of Birmingham - next Saturday.
