All-rounder Matt Spriegel has insisted his Surrey exit does not mean the end of life at his beloved Banstead.
The 25-year-old penned a two-year deal with LV= County Championship Division Two side Northamptonshire last week, bringing to an end a long association with the Kia Oval club.
The former Whitgift School student featured for Banstead as they thumped Weybridge by eight wickets in the Surrey Championship Premier Division on Saturday to close their campaign.
Spriegel said: “Surrey has been such a massive part of my life, but once I took the emotion out of the decision it was a no-brainer really. This is a fantastic opportunity to further my career.
“Playing for Northamptonshire is going to make playing for Banstead tricky, but if the chance comes up in the schedule to come back and play with my mates at Banstead, I’m sure I’ll take it.”
