Midfielder Harry Beautyman has assured fans Sutton United are one win away from repeating the winning form of last season.

Boss Paul Doswell's men have failed to secure three points in seven Blue Square South attempts this term having reached the end of season play-offs last time around on the back of 20 triumphs.

United enjoyed a 15-match unbeaten league and FA Cup run last season, but the best run they have mustered thus far is three back-to-back draws.

But Beautyman, who opened the scoring in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Weston-Super-Mare before a late penalty cost his side all three points, insisted the return of players like Stefan Payne would soon have Sutton firing.

"It has been a bit of a funny season so far because we have dominated the majority of games without taking enough of our chances," he said.

"We have taken the lead in six of our seven games, but haven't been able to build on that by scoring more goals.

"If we'd finished the chances we've created we would have won more games by now.

"With the likes of Stefan coming back, you need those sorts of players to be on form.

"Everyone is pulling in the same direction, but it is a case of getting that first win and I think we'll get on a good run."

Doswell has confirmed keeper Kevin Scriven will be missing for at least eight weeks after injuring his knee in last month's draw with Dover Athletic, which had seen him play through the pain barrier in the four games prior to the Weston stalemate.

And he has every confidence young replacement Tom Lovelock - recalled from a loan spell at Concord Rangers - can fill the void.

"Tom's a confident boy, and I was particularly impressed on Saturday with his kicking and the way he talked to the players in front of him," he added.

"This is the reason we signed him, to cover if Kevin was injured, so now he gets his chance to stake a claim."

Payne and defender Simon Downer, who both returned to first team action at the weekend, came through unscathed in a 2-1 training game win over AFC Wimbledon on Tuesday, which saw Watkins and Sam Rents find the net.

The pair are expected to be in the squad for Saturday's visit of Havant & Waterlooville, which is the club's first community fun day of the season featuring free entry to children from 12 participating schools.
