More to come from London Scottish, says Amor

London Scottish head coach Simon Amor was happy with an opening day win in the Championship, but he was not so happy about the overall performance.

James Love bagged all the points in a 26-20 win over Rotherham Titans at the Athletic Ground on Sunday, but Amor said they will need to greatly improve for the visit of Newcastle Falcons.

The Falcons, led by former Harlequins director of rugby Dean Richards, started their league campaign with a 37-20 win at Bristol.

And with a host of international players, including Scottish stars Allister Hogg, Scott MacLeod and Rory Lawson, in their ranks, they are among the favourites to reach the Aviva Premiership.

Amor said: “I am pleased with the result, but our performance was a long way from where we want to be.

“We have a lot of things to work on. There are a lot of new guys starting, so it will take time to gel combinations.

“Against Rotherham our set pieces were not as good as we would like, which is to do with a lot of new people coming together. And our breakdowns were not as effective as we’d like either.

“But with a little bit of concentration, game understanding and recognising other players’ roles, that will come.”

Amor will be without loosehead prop Mark Irish for the visit of the Falcons on Saturday (3pm) after he picked up a foot injury.

“We face a formidable challenge in the Falcons,” Amor said.

“They have an exceptional squad, an exceptional coaching staff and set-up and they are laden with Premiership and international experience right across the board.

“It’s a big challenge, but one that my squad is looking forward to.”
