Dons boss Terry Brown claimed fans wanting him replaced should be “careful what they wish for”.

After back-to-back League Two thumpings, 6-2 at Burton Albion and 5-1 at Bradford, Brown and the AFC Wimbledon board held discussions about his future earlier in the week, while some fans have used forums to voice concerns over recent results.

Brown admitted his defence has been found wanting, but defiantly said that when he gets a settled back four everything will change and results will improve.

The club released a statement that said: “The discussions were frank and focused on the actions that are needed to ensure that results improve before the season gets too much older.

“Terry confirmed that our defensive coach, Stuart Cash, will be working with the defence at all training sessions so as to ensure we improve over recent performances.”

One fan on the Wombles Underground Fanzine forum said: “Terry should be remembered in 50 years as the guy who took us from Ryman to Football League, not as the guy who did that and then got us down again.”

Brown, who has seen the Dons through three promotion campaigns, said: “We are one week into the season. I have been here five-and-a-half years and it seems that in seven days I have suddenly become the worst manager in the world.

“Whenever a team is shipping goals or losing badly then fans want a change. This is a club that has succeeded because it has had a continuity in players and management, so sometimes you should be careful what you wish for.

“Any manager that gets beaten in two consecutive games by six and five goals is going to feel pressure.

“But we didn’t get beaten by a load of rubbish. Burton beat Leicester 4-2 and Bradford beat Watford 2-1 (Capital One Cup ties).

“These are not piles of toilet that we’re getting beaten by, these are quality sides.”

Boss Brown should have Curtis Osana back from injury for the weekend visit of Dagenham & Redbridge, but he will be without Curtis Haynes-Brown after the loanee left-back suffered a concussion at Bradford.

Centre-back Angus MacDonald, on loan from Reading, has filled in at full-back, and Brown now wants to get his first choice back four together as soon as possible.

“Getting Curtis [Osana] back is great news because I’ve got a young centre-half in Angus [MacDonald] playing at full-back, so it is not surprising that fast wingers are beating him for pace,” said Brown.

“But then you think everything is against you when Haynes-Brown, who looked absolutely fantastic, gets taken off with concussion and can’t play again for another two weeks.

“We will have to juggle the back four for Saturday, but let’s not press the panic button just yet.

“Yes, the amount of goals going in is a major concern, but let me get a settled back four before we start worrying too much.”

Team GB rowing gold medallist and Dons fan Sophie Hosking will be presented to the Kingsmeadow crowd at half-time of the Dagenham & Redbridge match on Saturday, not before the game as the club originally announced.
