AFC Wimbledon manager Terry Brown has targeted a 50 point League Two haul  – as soon as possible.

The Dons start their League campaign on Saturday with the visit of Chesterfield, one of the favourites for promotion.

After a 2-0 defeat against Portsmouth in their final warm-up match last week, and Tuesday night’s defeat at Stevenage in the League Cup, Brown knows they have a tough season ahead.

“I can’t look any further than that first 50 points. Promotion is any manager’s first task and we set that task for the boys. But to attain promotion to League One we have to reach 50 points as soon as possible.

“If we get it in January then we can realistically say we can get 70 or 80 points here and see where we are.”

And summer signing Stacy Long reckoned his new team had a good chance of success.

“You cannot plan too far ahead, but if we go into the Chesterfield game aiming to get three points, that is all we can do and then move on to the next game,” said the midfielder.

“Literally, the ambition is to get those three points from a game and if we can do that and maintain that mentality,we have a good chance.”
