Worcester Park’s Howard Fuller has revealed his stint with British Touring Car Championship driver Tony Gilham’s outfit Team HARD could see him in the BTCC next year, writes Stuart Amos.

The 19-year-old finished sixth and first in two rounds of the Volkswagen Racing Cup at Rockingham last weekend and is now after an option to step up a level.

Fuller held talks with Gilham this week over a possible promotion to the UK’s leading domestic motor racing series next season.

And the former Brooklands College student is confident a deal can be struck sooner rather than later.

“I’m racing in the Volkswagen Cup on a race-by-race basis at the moment, which isn’t ideal,” he said.

“Considering I’ve barely raced at all in the last seven months, I’ve been pretty quick and it has been nice to get back on the podium.

“Tony is keen to get me in the car for testing and is looking to develop young drivers by giving them a chance.

“The team is looking to run more cars in the BTCC next year and the budget I’ll need to raise for next year is good compared to other teams.”

Fuller will join up with the team again for the next round of the Volkswagen Racing Cup in Spa next month.

Meanwhile, New Malden’s Tom Onslow-Cole, below, heads to Croft this weekend hoping a rare podium finish at Oulton Park is no flash in the pan.

The 25-year-old came third in the final race of his last British Touring Car Championship outing.
