Forwawrd Daniel Browne this week became the latest of a host of Premiership calibre players set to pitch up at London Welsh ready for next season.

The Old Deer Park outfit slashed 12 from their squad last week and have plenty of spaces to fill for the coming campaign whether that be in the Championship or the top flight.

The Exiles are preparing for an appeal hearing on June 28, which may or may not decide the Championship winners' fate after their orginal application for promotion to the Premiership was turned down on the basis their ground - and proposed use of the Oxford United's Kassam Stadium - did not meet the minimum standard criteria for entry into the competition.

Browne is equally comfortable at number eight, blindside flanker or in the second row, and joins the Exiles from last season’s French Pro Division Two champions Grenoble.

The 33-year-old brings a wealth of Heineken Cup experience having enjoyed spells at Northampton Saints, Bath and Leeds Carnegie.

“London Welsh have performed really well over the last couple of years in the Championship and it’s great to join a team that’s playing so well," he said.

“The style of rugby they play is really good, it suits the way I play and hopefully I can fit in.

"Following the Championship win and seeing what London Welsh have achieved, it’s a great opportunity.

“I spoke to a few players who’d worked with the head coach and you can see the way London Welsh play reflected in the way he coaches. I think it will great to get on board with the boys there.”

Head coach Lyn Jones added: “Daniel will be a good role model. It’s important to have good role models in the squad when our squad is young and inexperienced, of what it takes to be a top professional.”
