Old Meadonians made it nine goals from two games this year with a routine victory over league strugglers Old Belgravians.

They were nearly ahead inside four minutes when midfielder Kevin Quinn just failed to connect with Jack Costello’s cross.

But a Meads back four, well marshalled by keeper Gary Robinson, had to be on their mettle as Belgravians then pressed forward. Robinson had to tip one effort over the bar under pressure while Luke Graham cleared another off the line.

Meads went ahead 10 minutes before half-time when Costello fed midfielder Andy Thompson, who lashed the ball home from 10 yards.

They doubled their lead in the 55th minute when Colin Hawkins was felled in the box and got up to score the spot-kick himself.

Ten minutes later came the goal of the game. Full-back Nick Jones went down the right putting Costello clear to feed Thompson, who ficked the ball on for man-of-the-match Peter Eguae to come in on the blind side and fire crisply into the corner.

Belgravians pulled one back but Hawkins wrapped things up with Meads’ fourth.

Meads: Robinson, N. Jones, Pointer, McCombe, Graham, Quinn, (Rhone), Gerrish, Thompson, (Granville), Costello, (Palmer), Eguae, Hawkins.
