Surbiton High School pupils are following in the footsteps of former pupil Chemmy Alcott, the Olympic skier, with a string of successes, writes Karen Pocock.

At the inaugural British Schools’ Indoor Champion-ship in Manchester, Surbiton A cleaned up with the team gold medals, with the B team taking silver.

Surbiton skiers took the top five places, with Stephanie Espinosa finishing ahead of Eloise Greenhalgh, Lucy Plenderleith, Darcie Mead and captain Emily Pocock.

Hannah Bilgore, Evie Kock and Izzy Linacre were not far behind as all of Surbiton’s skiers finished in the top 14.

Other members of the successful team Surbiton team include Caroline Croft and Alice MacAulay.

Head of PE Jacky Wilkey said: “This success could not have happened without the dedication of the girls and the support of the parents, as well as the Ambition ski coaches Marc and Paul Telling.”

Surbiton’s A and B teams also swept the board at the British Schoolgirls’ races in Flaine, France, earlier this year, when they won 11 trophies and 41 medals.
