Hounslow have beaten borough teams Brent, Kensington & Chelsea and Barnet to qualify for the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games Cricket Cup Super 8s finals, writes Hugo Nisbett.
The Hounslow team now have the chance, along with seven other boroughs, to win the tournament and be crowned Champions of London.
The Super 8s will be held at Lord’s Indoor School, the same facility used in training by England stars such as Andrew Flintoff and Kevin Pietersen, on March 7.
Hounslow team organiser Peter Lee said: “After losing a few very quick early wickets in the first match, the boys performed very well to win all three of their matches.
"The enthusiasm and team spirit they showed was amazing. Considering the squad of eight is from six secondary schools, the way the boys bonded and played together as a team is a credit to them and the coach Andy Mawson. Lord’s, here we come.”
A record 600 youngsters from 30 boroughs will compete at the 2009 qualifiers, with the qualifiers for girls due to take place on February 28 and March 1.
The Cricket Cup was first introduced in 1996 and is a six-a-side, indoor competition for U14s.
Last year's winners were Harrow boys and Merton girls.
