AFC Wimbledon midfielder Alfie Egan says he is looking to break into the first-team this season.

The 19-year-old scored a late winner in a pre-season friendly against Watford on Saturday, with a brace coming from new signing Cody McDonald.

Speaking after the victory, Egan told the Wimbledon Guardian of his ambitions this coming campaign.

He said: “I just want to play as much as I can. I want to improve, show everyone what I can do and play as much game time as I can really.

“I want to establish a name for myself. I want to try and play as many games as I can, hopefully start a lot of games, and see where it takes me this season.”

When asked about the club’s objectives this year, he said: “I think we are a club and a team that aims really high. I think anything is possibly really.

“We can go and push for the play-offs but we just want to finish as high as we can.”

Egan was asked about the relationship between him and the supporters who have warmly welcomed him to the club, saying: “Even when you are warming up down the side at away games, stuff like that, they sing your name.

“It gives you that little bit more confidence when you do come on or you do start that you know they are going to get behind you.

“If you do make a mistake they are still supporting you and they are behind you to push you on.”
