Herne Hill Harriers’ Stacey Ward smashed the club’s 5,000m women’s record at the BMC Grand Prix at Watford.

Ward clocked 16 minutes 22 seconds, in finishing ninth in a top-class A-string field, and broke Cathy Ansell’s previous mark by more than half a minute.

Lewis Lloyd was another Herne Hill athlete to clock a personal best of 3:46.34 in winning the D-string 1,500m at Watford.

Times set by Lloyd and Ward were good enough to earn them invitations to the weekend's British Championships.

Katie Snowden was also in fine form again, as she recorded her second best time over 800m.

Snowden, who clocked 2:02.99, was fourth in her race ahead of GB internationals Laura Weightman and Hannah England.

Further Harriers success at the BMC meeting included Jayme Rossiter (first in the F-string 1,500m in 3:49.12 and Eric Keogh (ninth in the D-string 1,500m in 3:50.44), while Lee van Haeften was eighth in the B-string 5,000m in a personal best 14:28.65.

Elsewhere, Herne Hill’s junior girl’s squad were victorious in the latest round of the Lily B league at Walton.

Several youngsters also represented the club at the London Inter Club Championship at Allianz Park, with Feysel Nadew (first in the 800m in 2:05.89) to the fore. Senior athlete Rebecca Zelic won the long jump with a leap of 5.08m.
