Wandsworth made it six male judo titles in a row after a hard-fought day of competition at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games, despite a potential handicap.
Wandsworth saw off the challenge of Bexley in silver and Hackney in bronze to continue their winning run, made all the more impressive as team manager Darren Hawney revealed some of his team were fasting because of Ramadan.
He said: “Not bad this year because half of the team were fasting so they can’t drink, they can’t eat so they’ve come through to make it six times so I’m well proud of them.
“They’ve done the work before this tournament. We work with them as much as we can so they’re prepared. They’re physically prepared so they know what was going to be in front of them today.”
Wandsworth’s efforts were helped by gold medals for Hicham Dob, Oscar Treadway-Hoyte, Mohamad Alip, Adam Khakiev and Adam Adaman.
