Hercules Wimbledon Athletic Club’s top teenage sprinters Theo Etienne and Rechmial Miller opened their summer track racing programme in fine form by posting life-time bests over 100m.

Etienne, 18, stormed to victory in his 100m race at the Loughborough international meeting on Sunday in a superb 10.50 seconds, with the aid of a 2.4 metres per second tailwind.

He gained a valuable scalp in beating Reuben Arthur, who represented Great Britain in last season’s IAAF Junior World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, and was the second ranked UK U20 100m runner in 2014.

Although these were Etienne’s opening races of the sumer season, all three times were faster than his previous best before 2015.

In 2014, he clocked a wind-assisted 10.66 in finishing second in his heat at the England U20 championships at Bedford in June and, on the same day, with a fluctuating wind, clocked a legal 10.70 against a slight headwind in taking third place in his semi-final.

Miller, who is still 16, also made a flying start to his summer racing season at the Lee Valley meeting.

He finished two places behind Etienne in his first round 100m race in 10.65 to better his previous legal time of 10.8 set in winning his race at the Southern Counties inter-counties meeting at Portsmouth last July.

He also clocked a wind-assisted 10.54 in winning the England U17 title at Bedford at the end of August.

Later, Miller finished fourth inn his second round race at Lee Valley in a slightly slower 10.66.

The performances place Etienne and Miller fifth and sixth, respectively, in this year’s UK U20 100m rankings.

Another Hercules Wimbledon runner in action at the Loughborough international meeting was Dwayne Cowan who was fifth in his 400m race in 49.35.

Hercules Wimbledon made a solid start to their Rosenheim League Eastern division programme at Battersea Park.

Last season’s Eastern Division champions, the women shared the honours with hosts Belgrave Harriers.

Best efforts came from Alison Murray who won the pole vault with 2.90m and Lisa Thomas who was second in the 800m in a Hercules Wimbledon women’s over 50 record of 2:30.69.

She then ran the anchor leg for the 4x200m relay linking up with Emily Bokor-Ingram, Florence England and Heather Letley.

Hercules Wimbledon’s men, the current Rosenheim League champions, finished runners-up.

Best efforts came from Michael Franklin who won the pole vault, Andrew Bullimore, second in the triple jump and the winning 4x200m relay team of Antonio Douglas, Dominic Bokor-Ingram, Mark White and Devonte Casely-Hayford.

This weekend, Hercules Wimbledon athletes are in action in the annual Surrey track and field championships at Kingsmeadow Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

They start at 9.30am on both days with the hammer events while the first track event is at 10am. The final event is scheduled for around 5.30pm.
