Leatherhead boss Richard Brady will not play down the achievements of his Tanners, but he will fall short of getting carried away.

Tuesday night’s 3-1 win at AFC Hornchurch extended the Tanners’ unbeaten run to seven games, including six wins.

Moreover, ahead of this weekend’s visit to Fetcham Grove of Canvey Island, Tanners are just four points adrift of the Ryman Premier Division play-offs, and coming up on the inside rail for an unexpected big finale to the season.

Brady said: “We’ve taken 19 points out of the last 21, which is undeniably great for a side promoted last season.

“My remit at the beginning of the season was to stay in the division, and to have people talking about a possible late surge into the play-offs means we’re doing good – as a manager, what a place to be.”

He added: “There’s no secret behind this good run. I had a makeshift defence from about November, and it was only in February that I had a settled back four.

“We knew we had a good side, and now we’re settled the players have proven that, and gone beyond it.

“We have a great team spirit and camaraderie. Against Hornchuch we went a goal down but the lads did not even flinch.

“They knew if the carried on doing what they were doing they would turn it around, and they did.”

Brady is not one to get carried away with form, and it is a mindset instilled into his players.

He said: “We all know the balloon could burst this weekend against Canvey.

“If we lose, then it’s all ‘Oh, well, that’s that’ – but we’re aiming to win as many games as possible before the end of the season, and see where it takes us.”

Jerry Nnamani and Vas Karagiannis bagged goals against AFC Hornchurch, with the icing on the cake provided by an own goal.
