Corinthian Casuals first team coach Joe Davies reckons a hard-fought point at Sittingbourne on Saturday is a sign that the side is progressing in the right direction.

The 1-1 result leaves Casuals 10th in Ryman League Division One South, just three points off the play-off spots.

It also means Casuals have picked up four points from the past two games, including a 3-0 win over Ramsgate, ending a run of three successive defeats.

Davies said: “There are always improvements to be made, but we lost to the same side 3-0 on the opening day of the season, so there’s real progress there.

“Even a couple of weeks ago, we would have lost the Ramsgate game when they equalised.”

He added: “There’s always a good team spirit no matter what the results are, however winning helps massively.

“After the poor run we’ve had, to be two unbeaten now is great.

“If we can go into the game against Worthing next week at home and pick up three points, then we’ll have seven from three matches which is back to where we want to be.”

Jamie Byatt gave Casuals, missing Lee Hall and Dave Hodges, the lead at the Brickies from the penalty, only for the hosts to level in the second half.

Davies said: “Before the game we probably would’ve settled for a point, playing away to a decent side in poor conditions.

“It was a fair result, but we had a couple of chances with the ball flashing across the face of the goal which could have won it for us.”

Byatt was on target again on Tuesday night, scoring both goals in a 2-1 Surrey County Cup win at Walton Casuals.
