Epsom Rangers FC manager Tony Dicarlo is waiting to hear his team's fate after withdrawing from the Surrey County Cup in protest over the decision to replay a first round clash.

Rangers clinched a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Dynamo Molesey earlier this month to reach the second round.

But celebrations were cut short after the club were told by the Surrey County FA that the result was invalid and would require a replay.

Match referee, Fidelis Akanga, decided that the match, which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, would go straight to penalties and bypass extra time, leading to the Surrey FA to quash the result.

Despite the Surrey FA’s decision, Rangers will still have to pay £50 for picking up five bookings.

Dicarlo said: “Both teams and managers discussed the matter and agreed with the referee’s decision to go straight in to penalties at the interval.

“I feel that we have been punished as a club and therefore action needs to be taken.

“For that reason we are not going to replay the game and we have withdrawn from the County Cup competition.”

Dicarlo has taken his argument to the national FA, but has yet to receive any response.

Bob Dick, competition officer at Surrey County FA, said: “Epsom have received an administration fee, not a fine for picking up the five bookings.

“We should have a decision regarding a fee for withdrawing in the next few days.”

The fine for withdrawing from the competition could range from £25 up to £250 depending upon the time and reasons for withdrawing.

Dick said: “Pulling out of a match in good time will result in only a £25 fine, whereas if you withdraw on the day, you can expect a more substantial fee.”

The matter is complicated further as the Dynamo defender Tom Holder works at the Surrey FA as a football services manager – leading to claims of a conflict of interest.

However, the Surrey FA have insisted Holder would have had no involvement in the decision.
