Putney High School pupil Katy-Ann McDonald is enjoying her running – and winning everything in her path.

It has been an August to remember for the 14-year-old former Herne Hill Harrier athlete, who joined Bromley & Blackheath with her coach Phil Kissi in May.

McDonald broke U15 UK record for 800m, running two minutes 6.47 seconds at the British Milers in Eltham – the previous record had stood for 32 years.

She also won the South of England 1,500m title in 4:38.58, and then went even quicker to win the same distance at the English National U15 Championships in Bedford, clocking 4:32.66.

Katy-Ann said: “My coach always just tells me to enjoy my running and I am doing that.

“Running against top class international runners and beating the English School 800m U15 champion was really fantastic.”

Kissi said: “We always race opponents keeping in mind the careful development and support of Katy-Ann’s future progression. We certainly won’t push her too hard.

“I am so proud of her as she is now the national U15 girls 1,500m champion which, after a disappointing English Schools result, means that the hard work we have put in over the past few months has finally been worthwhile.”

He added: “I am looking forward to the next few years, seeing what else we can achieve and where Katy-Ann can take her amazing athletics career.”
