Kingston & Polytechnic Harriers have been relegated to Southern Athletics League Division Three South, despite turning in their best performance of the season last weekend.

A second-place finish behind meeting hosts Tonbridge was not enough to keep Kingston out of the bottom four of Division Two South, and they join St Mary’s Richmond, Team Dorset and Swindon in going down.

On the day, there were wins for Jonathan Darby (800m, one minute 58 seconds), Max Perez-Diaz (400m hurdles, 63.70secs), Gordon Lester (pole vault, 4m), Chris Hall (long jump, 6.49m), Chris Dack (shot putt, 14.46m), Andy Wheble (discus, 40.84m), Gareth Cook (hammer, 49.25m) and the men’s 4x100m relay team.

For the women, Mae Thompson was fastest over the 110m hurdles in 16.6secs, while Layla Thompson won the 1,500m (5:34.80).

There were also wins for Dominique Blaize (triple jump, 10.17m) and Pippa Wingate (discus, 44.53m; hammer, 51.31m).
