Croydon Harriers’ James Dasaolu has been left out of England’s athletics team for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Despite recovering from a hamstring injury and clocking Britain’s second fastest 100m (9.91 seconds) last year, Dasaolu’s omission was, according to team leader Peter Stanley, “the only decision we could have made”.
He said: “James was certainly discussed, but for our selection process and criteria, we were looking at athletes with current form, running from January 1, 2014, to June 2.
“James had not competed during that period over 100 metres.
“So it didn’t really leave us much room to nominate him, and he still has not competed yet, so it’s the only decision we could have made.”
Stanley added: “He is coming back from injury. I understand he is in good form, but now he’ll have more time to complete his training programme with his coach to be ready for the Europeans.
“The Commonwealths are probably just a little bit too early for him I think.”
